I just watched a marathon of makeovers on HGTV, so I thought I’d show a few recent client sites that have been ‘remodeled’ with the magic of WordPress website design.
Bonita Pool and Spa, San Diego WordPress Website Design
This site, like many small business sites, was originally built by a family member. They contacted me with the age-old question, “Why isn’t my site showing up on page 1 of Google?’ It could have been because the content did not spell out which areas they served. Or that there were only 100 words on the homepage. Or that they had just 2 pages on their entire site. Google wants ‘authority’ so content needs to clearly state the intent of the site. Fresh content always helps. Their ranking on search results was originally page 10. Within 4 months, they had moved up to page 5. Slow but steady.

Pure Clover Skin Care, Dana Point CA WordPress website design
Pure Clover’s site didn’t really say ‘clean, fresh, feminine’, which would appeal to women. Pure Clover needed a facelift. The site was redone using a WordPress website design with a completely different color palette and logo. Pure Clover was already ranking well for skincare, facials and sugaring in Orange County. This was basically a cosmetic makeover with minor SEO adjustments on keyword phrasing.

By the way, I can vouch for Clover’s facials – they are simply incredible!
Equinox Acupuncture and Massage, Portland OR WordPress website design
The Equinox site was pretty outdated, built with a template maker on 1and1 hosting. After installing a WordPress backend and the Genesis framework on this site, I can tell you I will never work on another site hosted at 1and1.com. While they provide a ‘quick installer’ for WordPress, the version they provide is over a year old and cannot be updated! In order to get a fresh version of WordPress into the backend, it must be manually uploaded file by interminable file. They don’t even provide a zip file extractor, common to cPanels. It may provide a cheap hosting alternative, but it isn’t worth the money.

Last but not least… Clare Katner, Portland Or Massage & Hypnotherapy
I’m including this site even though I didn’t do the original WordPress website design work on it. It was created by Dash Creative. Unfortunately, the site was not completed but the client liked the edgy look and features. We needed to expand the navigational access and add a shopping cart, which wasn’t compatible with the original theme. The end result was a blending of 2 different websites – one for massage and one for hypnosis CDs – into one fully-functional site built on Genesis. Because Clare’s online presence was scattered between 3 websites, it seemed the smartest thing to do was to bring everything under one roof.
What I liked most about this project was adding the Jigoshop cart – which is a beautiful shopping cart with unbelievable features. Encrypted links for audio downloads, instant gift certificate download, coupons and audio clips. The Jigoshop cart has many extensions available, so while the cart is free, the add-ons can run between $50 and $200, depending on your need. We used extensions for shipping rates, importing products and creating specialized checkout fields.

If you are at all curious to see what is possible with Jigoshop, I highly recommend visiting Clare’s site.
